Ни для кого не секрет, что Юрки и Франклин из Heathen Apostles совместно выступают в рамках проекта The 69 cats и что рано или поздно Юрки бы «засветился» в качестве гостевого вокалиста в апостолах. Но четырехтрековый ЕР Evil Spirits менее ожидаемым от этого не стал. Ибо сочетание двух очень характерных голосов — Мазер и Юрки на «фоне» gothic americana, dark country, southern rock – уже проигрышно звучать не может. Так что Evil Spirits получился ожидаемо очень колоритным и атмосферным.

Этот релиз позволяет и ностальгировать, и получить какие-то новые эмоции и ощущения. Низкий, бархатный вокал Юрки для меня до сих пор несколько экзотично звучит вне 69 eyes (хотя надобно привыкнуть), а для Мазер сложно представить достойного партнера – ее харизма способна затмить кого угодно, но Юрки выстоял.

На самом деле, получилась этакая отличная игра на контрастах в четырех частях. На заглавном треке вокальную линию ведет только Мазер, а Юрки расставляет акценты. А вот на Hallowed Be Thy Name роли меняются, и голос Юрки на удивление органично вплетается в полотно типичного саунда Heathen Apostles с традиционными для них скрипкой, банджо и мандолиной. Романтичный и лиричный трек Maylene – полноценный дуэт, с «диалогом» двух исполнителей и несколько рок-н-ролльной (правильнее в нашем случае — гот-н-ролльной) подачей слушателю. А After I’m Gone – это уже полное слияние, где линии мужского и женского вокала подчеркивают и дополняют друг друга, мрачная гармония как она есть. 9/10

No secret that Jyrki and Franklin from Heathen Apostles jointly exercise the project of The 69 cats, and that eventually Jyrki will be as guest vocalist in the Apostles. But the four-track EP «Evil Spirits» was worth the wait anyway. The combination of two very distinctive voice — Mather and Jyrki on «background” of gothic americana, dark country, southern rock — sounds excellent. So Evil Spirits turned expectedly very racy and atmospheric.

This release allows to  get some new emotions and sensations. Low, velvety vocals of Jyrki  is still somewhat exotic sound for me outside The 69 eyes (although one must get used), and for Mather hard to imagine a worthy partner — her charisma is able to outshine anyone, but Jyrki persevered.

In reality, it’s turned a sort of game of contrasts in four parts. On the title track, Maser’s vocal line only and Jyrki places accents. But on «Hallowed Be Thy Name» the roles are reversed, and the voice of Jyrki surprisingly organically woven into the the web of a typical sound Heathen Apostles with their traditional violin, banjo and mandolin. Romantic and lyrical track «Maylene» — complete duet with «dialogue» between the two performers and more rock ‘n’ roll (correctly in our case Goth ‘n’ roll) submission to the listener.  And «After I’m Gone» — this is a full merger, where the lines of male and female vocals emphasizes, complement each other. Gloomy harmony. 9/10
