Arcane Rain — формация из Германии, играющая gothic/symphonic/doom metal образца ранних Theatre of Tragedy, Tristania, The Sins Of Thy Beloved, Draconian (к последним, судя по названию, группа явно неравнодушна). Arcane Rain собрались в 2006, записала несколько демо, и вот теперь вышел лонгплей Nevermore.
Честно говоря, меня настораживает тот факт, что в последнее время появилось довольно много молодых групп, которые так сильно тяготеют к звучанию этого довольно специфического поджанра метал-музыки родом из 90-х. В начале года, например, по релизу выпустили финны Red Moon Architect и Whispering Woods из Румынии. Нет, конечно, я рада – мне импонируют эти трагично-наивные клавишные, сочетание вокальных линий Beauty-and-the-Beast, сырые риффы и знакомые до боли темы треков. С другой стороны – такая «аутентичность во всем» не всегда бывает оправданна. А в случае Arcane Rain такое звучание ну слишком уж «экзотично» для 2015 года. И еще один момент: в дебютном альбоме Arcane Rain мне не хватило самих Arcane Rain. Самобытность и собственный почерк — дело, конечно, наживное, и требовать это от дебютной работы не слишком оправданно, но все-таки.
После небольшого интро, альбом открывает Your own Hell – один из самых жестких и тяжелых треков на альбоме. The Downward Spiral показывает нам лирическую сторону релиза, основной акцент идет на женский вокал. Тоже самое происходит и в среднетемповом треке Finest Wine, плюс добавляются довольно объемные клавишные партии. Мой фаворит на альбоме — Poisoned Temptation, немного зловещий и пафосный и удивительно напоминающий звучание первых релизов The Sins Of Thy Beloved. И снова драйв и утяжеленное звучание на Hear my Call, но Visions с ярковыраженными клавишными делает перевес в сторону мелодичности. Трек-маскот Arcane Rain — The Raven очаровывает своей меланхоличным настроением и интересной структурой. Shadows of the Past выигрывает запоминающимся мотивом и является удачным эпилогом альбома.
А в целом весь альбом звучит достаточно органично, плотно, можно даже сказать, атмосферно (особенно, опять же, для тех, кто застал лучшие годы Tristania и Draconian). 7/10

Arcane Rain gathered in 2006, recorded some demo, and now came LP Nevermore.
Honestly, I was worried by the fact that recently appeared quite a lot of young bands that are so strongly attracted to the sound of this rather specific subgenre of metal music from the 90s. Earlier this year, for example, Red Moon Architect from Finland and Whispering Woods from Romania released one album each. No, I’m glad, of course — I’m impressed by the tragic-naive keyboards, vocal lines a combination of «Beauty-and-the-Beast», raw riffs and painfully familiar themes of songs. But, on the other hand — this «authenticity in everything» is not always justified. In the case of Arcane Rain is sound so «exotic» for 2015. And one more thing: in debut album Arcane Rain I lacked Arcane Rain themselves . Originality and own handwriting — it is, of course, come with time, and to demand it from the debut work not very defensible, but still.
After a short intro, the album opens «Your own Hell» — one of the toughest and heavy tracks on this album. «The Downward Spiral» shows us the lyrical side of this release, main accent is on the female vocals. Also the thing happens in the mid-tempo track «Finest Wine», plus added a rather voluminous part of keyboards. My favorite track on this album — «Poisoned Temptation», a bit sinister and remarkably reminiscent of the sound of the first releases of The Sins Of Thy Beloved. And once again drive and loaded sound on the «Hear my Call», but clearly marked keyboards for «Visions» makes the preponderance in the direction of melody. Arcane Rain’s track-mascot — «The Raven» enchants with its melancholic mood and interesting structure. «Shadows of the Past» wins memorable motif and is successful as epilogue of album.
But in general the whole album sounds quite harmonious, massively, one might even say, atmospheric (especially, again, for those who found the best years in music of Tristania and Draconian). 7/10
